    well ok then, subconscious
    dream just awoken from:

in ottawa, in the market near what should be the art gallery, walk into an employment centre where they take my resume and a few other facts and a moment later are saying, "here's your new job, you start tomorrow." i go to a cafe to wait for the details after going to a counter where a woman pulls a metallic sticker off its backing so she can apply it to the large curved glass plaque they're about to hand me. i get a brief look at the company- monsanto! so as i wait in the cafe, a helpful girl hands me a stack of cards i'm going to need to do my job. the first pile she says is "the Christian one" and it has Bawa Muhaiyaddeen on it. the next pile is "for the jews". i point out to the lady that Bawa wasn't really a Christian, he was a sufi.

cut to the next scene, rushing down the subway stairs (yes, in ottawa!) with tara rushing us along. my girls are tagging along, pfloide seems to be holding his own, lily is about five and running around. i don't have a bus ticket or token or pass, but she pays. we sit down, and i notice my hands are free because i left my backpack and plaque behind at the last spot. oh, and and the subway car is crawling with kittens. fortunately, i have mine with me.

    LJ Idol - Season 6 - Week 8 - Reprobate
    A young girl
    product of the devil man
scorned and criticized more harshly than the others.
    Mama's blood couldn't save me.
I will be your reprobate no longer.

    A young woman
    wife of an angry man.
    Called names like
    manipluator, lazy, weak.
Yelled at, came at with flying objects like a
    tornado of rage.
    Being meek couldn't save me.
I will be your reprobate no longer.

    A lonely woman
    working hard, down on luck.
No jobs, no home and no love.
    God himself couldn't save me.
I will be your reprobate no longer.

    An older woman
wife, and daugther-in-law to better men.
    Student, graduate, worker and friend.
Strong enough to stand and say these words:
    Love finally saved me.
I am a reprobate no longer.

Torn Asunder: Critical Hits - Pathfinder Edition Open Call
DragonWing Games is currently adapting the original Torn Asunder: Critical Hits for the new Pathfinder edition. This latest version will contain new material that supplements the Pathfinder RPG rules and expands on them. For this reason, we are initiating an open call for new material. If you have any nifty ideas that you would like to submit for consideration, write them up and email them to us at creech@dragonwing.net with the subject header, "Torn Asunder Open Call". Specifically, we are looking for new healing items, herbs, prestige classes, and creatures that would fit the Torn Asunder theme but be written for Pathfinder. Additional rules to cover bleeding and shock are also possibilities as long as they do not override the basic critical hits rules developed in Torn Asunder. In that regard, we encourage folks who plan to submit to be familiar with the existing Torn Asunder book and cater your ideas so they mesh as easily as possible with the rules contained in the book. Already, we have completely reworked the Called Shots system mechanic so it is not open to abuse. In addition Mike Kogan, a certified expert in prostethics, has written new material for the chapter on prosthetic limbs. Submissions that are accepted will be paid at a rate of .02/word (after editing) no later than 90 days after publication of the electronic version. A print version of Torn Asunder: Critical Hits Pathfinder Edition will be released sometime before Gen Con. All submissions should be completed no later than Monday, January 11th for consideration. If you do not own a copy of the original Torn Asunder: Critical Hits, you may purchase an electronic copy for $9.99 at: http://enworld.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=27822&it=1 or a print copy for $22.95 at http://www.studio2publishing.com/shop/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=12&products_id=107

    An Early Exchange
Last night I finished wrapping the presents for Carl. I've still got some wrapping to do, for Mom and my sister and my nephew, but Carl's is done so I brought them to the computer room where we are currently stacking them (don't dare leave them in the living room, the JakJak Monster would have to much fun with them!)

Carl's been going crazy for like a week now wanting to open presents. Not that he wants to open his, he just really wants me to open mine. Now I knew one of the presents that I got for him he'd know what it was instantly. Recently we've been getting the Family Guy on DVD. We had the first four volumes, so I got him volume 5 as part of his gift. Since I was getting it from FYE's Used section, it wasn't the best shape to wrap as it was and not be obviously repackaged, so I got creative and silly. I unwrapped it complete, wrapped each of the three dvd cases seperately, wrapped the outer case in such a way that I could then slide the three wrapped cases in it and still not be able to see any names or titles. That it was a three-dvd box set, and the cases were super thin pretty much screamed what it was. I knew that it wasn't really hiding anything.

So last night I bring the present in and stack them on the others and let Carl look at that one. I had already warned him that he'd probably know -exactly- what it was as soon as he looked at it, not even have to guess to far to get the details (which show/season). Even warned the look on his face as he examined it "You -wrapped- them individually?!?" was priceless. And then he's thinking that I couldn't have been that silly, I must have just folded the paper into the creases to make it look like that. So he slides the discs out and then goes "Oh my god, you really did wrap them individually!" I was laughing hysterically at his expression. It was worth the 45 minutes it took me to wrap that one thing.

then we decided in order to preserve sanity for another week, last night we let each other open one gift, something that would keep us entertained/occupied till christmas and thus get his mind off looking at the presents and wanting to urge me to open them all. And since, like I said, I knew the dvds weren't going to be a big surprise, I said okay, and we'll watch them over the next week. So he picked on thing for me to open as well.

he was afraid that I'd guess what it was when he first wrapped it up. So I felt the box, and it had some sort of handle on top, and I thought that because of the weight and the handle it was one a bath set like you get in most drug stores. I was WAY off. It was a complete art set. Carl had been looking for something up in the attic and found my old sketch books (we're talking done in high school) and doodle pages, and he knows that I've been thinking about getting back to it although I am horribly out of practice. So he got me this art kit to get me going again. It's got a full set of color pencils, water color pencils, oil crayons, drawing pencils, and 18 tubes each of oil paint, acrylic paint and watercolor paint. Combined with the fact that for my birthday he got me a Micheal's gift card that's still sitting in my wallet because I haven't decided what to use it on, and I'm going to be all set to get back to art stuff. I've already decided that card will go towards getting me a pallet so I have something to mix colors on, as well as some better brushes because the two in the kit are servicable, but not my favorites types.

Of course last night I tried to doodle something rather simple, a pink elephant. and I realized, being 15 years out of practice it's noticable. So I pulled out my sketchbook that I bought a few months ago, and will practice first in there with line drawings with the full expectation that it's going to suck for now. I'll get better once I get going again though.

And he proved once again why I married him, with everything else happening lately, he knew that I could really use even just little things like that to cheer me up. And it's not just the art set itself, but what it implies, that he's encouraging me to pay more attention to my creative side, and supporting that.

So I was thinking that I really want some new icons to use here and a few other places, right now however, I can't make them myself thanks to a bad shoulder. (which is why I haven't been on things like WoW to much lately either)

So I'm asking for help. I'm looking for icons with any of the following quotes

"Success is falling nine times and getting up ten" ~ Bon Jovi

“Reality is merely an illusion, although a very persistent one” ~ Albert Einstein

“Humor is emotional chaos remembered in tranquility.” ~ James Thurber

or anything else with a good quote.

    back to it
no more external forces over which i have no control dictating the course of my healing. now it's all up to me and my internal process to try and score some closure. he's gone, in jail, and not a threat for another few years. the publication ban is in effect, so i'm not going to say more here, but i welcome private queries.

and cards. totally send me christmas/belated birthday cards!

    ahem.
    parting shots. and gratefulness )
too bad that there was a shadow over my birthday. but so relieved that it's now gone, and this burden is off our shoulders.

    Finals Week.

My toe hurts. Ranger broke the nail very close to the base with his teeth. Would have been a nasty puncture wound had he not hit the nail. I got some more blood out of the injury today; can't really irrigate through the nail. It'll grow out in a month or so.

Finals is a rushed time. Got a final in a course I haven't taught before, which is nerve-wracking.

Expected chez [info]bront on Friday for Lego Rock Band winddown. May see my mother Saturday.

    stuff. and things.
i think one of the things that sucks about routine is that you don't celebrate the awesomeness any more. you do dishes every day, laundries and groceries a few times a week, mop the floors, drive the kid to school, work, prepare meals, do dishes, etc.

cuz dagnabbit, yay for me! i did the dishes! i'm doing laundries! i did groceries yesterday! i've been driving the youngest to and from school (often more than once a day, hurrah for extracurricular activities), working, cooking, etc. and yay for you for going to work every day! or for changing diapers! or shovelling your walk!

    ahem.

and now, i'm off to address xmas cards. hooyeah!

    holiday memories
once there was a book i received once when i was six or so. don't even remember the book, but it was wrapped in a completely different wrapping paper than all the other presents, and had in a handwriting i'd never seen "from santa" written inside. i was thrilled!

    more inside )
this year we have a small plastic tree that everyone helped decorate, and i'm in love with it. i can't wait to start up some new traditions with new family, and revisit some older ones and see how they fare. it's lovely to be doing this with a partner who wants to be involved. yesterday morning we did an assembly line for the production of one of our gifts to family and friends, and it was awesome.
